I’ve been a photographer for 11+ years .. And I didn’t start with a Canon 5D Mark II .. I started with a Canon Rebel & a kit lens <3
SO it does’t really matter what type of camera or lens you have .. the camera doesn’t make the photos .. YOU DO!!!!
The lenses you use, make a difference in the overall feel of your photos based on the look you want to achieve. There is no right or wrong!
Here’s is what is currently in my bag 😉
Canon 5D Mark II
I have a few of these bad boys in my bag (if you shoot weddings, you ALWAYS want to have a second body in your bag).
I’ve been shooting with a 5D Mark II for many years, and I haven’t upgraded .. YET! I think upgrading to Mark III is in the books for 2019 😉 Although I like the shiny NEWEST Technologies that come out .. I am also practical, and I always remember “Don’t fix something if it ain’t broken” 😉 Hence why I still shoot with these babies!!
**But remember you don’t need a 5D Mark II or III to be a professional photographer (I started with a REBEL 🤟🏻) <3

Canon 70-200mm IS USM
This is my go-to lens for EVERYTHING!!! This is MY BABY 😉 I NEVER leave home without it. I use this lens about 95% of the time. I remember before I got it .. I rented it for a weekend, and it only took a few minutes to realize I WANTED IT YESTERDAY!!!!
I’m definitely NOT a prime lens girl .. I REALLY REALLLY can’t live without this lens LOL
I use this lens for any type of session outdoors. I use it indoors sometimes, but there are definitely restrictions in terms of space with this one!! (see below for my indoor go-to lens)
Here are a few shots I have taken with my 70-200mm lens. The BOKEH with this lens is CRAZY AWESOME!!!
PS .. Most photos on my website have been shot with this lens as well.
I shoot primarily with an aperture of 3.2 to 4.0 depending on how many people I have in my photo. I love the look a 3.2 gives me, it’s definitely a “sweet” spot for me.
Canon 24-70mm 2.8
This was my 1st EVER L series lens. And it has served me WELL!! This is my go-to lens for most photo sessions indoors. I don’t use it a lot, unless I’m indoors shooting lifestyle portraits, and it’s also good for wedding prep. Some photographers use this lens for outdoor sessions too, and it’s effective at getting amazing shots as well.
You can still get really good BOKEH with this lens.
Canon 100 MACRO 2.8
I don’t use this lens a lot. I use this for newborn precious details, wedding details, and sometimes I feel creative and want to take photos of the rain drops on my flowers LOL so I’ll use this awesome lens for this. I have recently used it for indoor portraits as well.
Canon 16-35mm 2.8
This is a great lens if you want to get a wide angle shot. I use this for my indoor sessions if I want to capture most of the room. Sometimes I shoot homes for real estate agents or renovation projects, and I will only use this lens.
Canon SPEEDLITE 580EX
I only ever use this flash if I’m shooting weddings or events .. mainly for reception coverage. Anything in the dark basically LOL
Disclaimer: I am a NATURAL LIGHT photographer. SO I try to avoid using flash at all cost LOL 😉 I only use it if I HAVE TO.
If I have indoor sessions scheduled, and it turns out it’s a rainy day, (that makes it dark inside too) I usually re-schedule my session and I THANK MYSELF LATER!! LOL

There you have it!!! My camera equipment of choice. They have and continue to serve me well, and I don’t see any changes coming anytime soon .. OK except for maybe a Canon 5D mark III LOL (I’ll keep you posted on that one)
